12-year-old abducted while going to school
A 12-year-old boy who was on his way to Mont' Kiara International School (MKIS) near his home was abducted by two men in a black car.
Nayati Shamelin Moodliar, who was in his school uniform, was grabbed at about 7.35am just a short distance from his school.
According to witnesses, the men, who were in a black sedan, grabbed the boy while he was walking to school, bundled him into the car and sped off.
Nayati, who has dark brown eyes, is about 1.5m tall and weighs 45kg. He was wearing a white polo T-shirt with the school's emblem and dark green shorts. The boy's sobbing parents have appealed to the abductors to release their only son as soon as possible.

Newborn and mum found dead in toilet
A newborn girl and her single mother were found dead in the toilet of a factory hours after her birth.
A cleaner discovered the bodies at Taman Perindustrian Merlimau, Malacca, on Thursday at about 8am, Berita Harian reported.
A police spokesman said the mother, in her 30s, from Kemendor near Jasin, was believed to have died of excessive bleeding.
FB accounts of students offering sex closed
The Facebook accounts allegedly belonging to secondary school students offering sex services had been closed after China Press reported about them in its front-page on Thursday.
The daily reported that the girls were afraid that the authorities might be able to track them down through the accounts.
The paper had earlier reported that some students used Facebook to earn money through sex.
One said she had listed her sex services on a website to earn money to buy an iPhone.
A 17-year-old student from Kepong, who had paid RM300 a month to advertise herself on a sex website, said due to the report she would temporarily stop the advertisement.
She said she would resume her “service” later.
The daily also found out that a netizen who claimed to be a 21-year-old girl from Malacca cheated potential customers after they banked in the money to her.
The girl asked for RM300 per session of sex and RM600 for an overnight rendezvous.

Paya Terubong childcare centre sealed
The state Welfare Department today sealed an unlicensed day-care centre here where a two-year-old toddler was found dead in a basin of water on June 6.
The department's enforcement team descended on the Strawberry Childcare Centre in Paya Terubong at late afternoon, even as a warning was sounded out that many more similar centres had yet to register despite being required to do so.
Department director Zulkifli Ismail said the day-care centre was not registered with the department. It also did not have a permit from the Penang Island Municipal Council (MPPP).
In the tragedy, Stella Chew Xing Rou, who would have turned two on June 23, was found drowned in a tub in a bathroom at the centre.
Zulkifli stressed that while the child's death was a matter for the police, the sealing of the premise was based on the fact that the centre was operating without permit.
So far, only 48 daycare centres and 37 nurseries have registered with the department, with many others running illegally.

A SIX-year-old boy in Sabah paid a deadly price for being noisy, Metro Ahad reported.
Mohd Khairadri Awang Ahmad and two elder siblings were attacked by their furious uncle who could not stand the din the children were making while playing in their home at the Sandakan municipal council flats in Jalan Batu Sapi on Friday afternoon.
The uncle, who lived a floor below the children's home, used a kitchen knife to slash the little boy, his brother, Mohd Fadli Zairi, 12, and sister Nur Salinah, 10.

Toddler’s drowning triggers probe - Unlicensed childcare centre ordered to stop operations

The Penang Welfare Department has ordered the immediate closure of the nursery in Paya Terubong where a toddler was found dead in a baby bathtub.
Department director Zulkifli Ismail said Strawberry Childcare Centre would stay closed indefinitely pending investigations.
“We have advised the nursery to inform parents to stop sending their children there for now,” he said.

Girl hit by horse on beach
Semi-conscious: Arina being wheeled in to Penang Hospital after she was hit by a horse along the beach in Batu Ferringhi yesterday.
A five-year-old girl, building sandcastles on the Batu Ferringhi beach here was hit by a horse and is now warded in Penang Hospital.
Arina Kirana Azrin and her 12-year-old sister were at the beach yesterday morning when a horse, ridden by a beach boy, came their way.
The two were too surprised to run away and one of the horse's hooves hit Arina.
Her father Azrin Abdul Razak, 37, a senior civil servant from Putrajaya, said he was talking to his friends when all of a sudden he heard a galloping sound. When he turned around to look, he saw his daughter on the ground.

No compromise on playground safety, says activist

THE lack of safety awareness at playgrounds happens not just in the Klang Valley but all over country, says Malaysia Crime Prevention Foundation vice-chairman Tan Sri Lee Lam Thye.
"We have a poor maintenance culture in this country. We must make it a priority to deal with this issue as playground accidents are common."
Playground safety became a major issue following The Malay Mail reports on the death of Muhammad Naquiddin Mohd Marzuki, 11, who was electrocuted by a faulty lamp post at Taman Batu Tiga playground on March 19, as well as the "sex-park" outrage in Taman Bukit Maluri, Kepong, on May 11.

Seven landslide victims buried together
Seven youths killed in yesterday’s deadly landslide that ravaged the Al-Taqwa orphanage here were buried in a joint grave at a nearby cemetery today.
A man and 15 boys were killed in the landslide that trapped 25 people at the orphanage yesterday. Seven boys and two men survived the ordeal.
About 400 people watched under the blazing sun as the bodies were lowered into a six-foot-deep grave this afternoon at the Dusun Nanding Muslim Cemetery here.
Zaitun Abdullah, 38, sobbed uncontrollably as she watched the burial of her 17-year-old nephew, Dzahir Haziq Mohd Muin, who was to have started his matriculation next week.

Teen’s family want police nod for another autopsy
The family of Johari Abu Bakar shot dead by police last Friday will seek approval tomorrow for a second post-mortem on the 17-year-old youth.
PKR legal bureau chief Latheefa Koya confirmed with The Malaysian Insider today the appeal will be sent in writing to the Sepang district police chief in the morning.
“We need to find out if they are willing to agree to a second post-mortem before taking it further,” she explained when contacted.
Should the police refuse the request or fail to respond, Latheefa said the family will then file a petition in court.
Johari, a school dropout who became an odd-job worker, was killed in a shootout with the police behind a budget hotel at the Cyber Valley Commercial Centre, Dengkil, at about 10.30pm on Friday.

Bodies of two sisters found
MOTHER’S ANGUISH... Wan Azleela Wan Abdullah, 32, is overcome with grief on seeing the bodies of her two daughters who drowned on Tuesday evening. The two girls and their younger sister were swept away by strong currents when bathing at Hutan Lipur Ulu Bendul in Kuala Pilah with their father, Syed Ahmad Ibrahim. Wan Azleela is consoled by her brother Wan Aziz and relatives at her brother-in-law’s house in Senawang yesterday.
The search and rescue team recovered the bodies of two of the three sisters who were swept away by strong currents at a waterfall in the Ulu Bendul recreational park early yesterday morning.
The body of Nursyaza Alisa Syed Ahmad, 5, was the first to be located 500m from where she was spotted swimming with her sisters.
Her body was found by her uncle, Abdul Azam Wahad, 23, who joined the search operation, in a flood tunnel near Jalan Seremban-Kuala Pilah at 3.15am.
The second body, that of 4-year-old Nursyaza Azira, was found in a river near SK Ulu Bendul, 2.5km from the picnic spot, at 10.20am.

3 sisters drown during picnic
Three sisters were feared to have drowned when they went for a swim during a picnic outing yesterday.
In the 5pm incident, the girls, Nursyaza Alisa, 5, Nursyaza Azira, 4, Nursyaza Sakina, 2, their father Syed Ahmad Ibrahim, 28, and a female companion in her 20s, Ilwani Abu Hassan, were picnicking at the Hutan Lipur Ulu Bendul and had decided to take a swim in the river when the three girls and the woman were dragged underwater by a strong current.

Tears flow for murdered baby
Even the sky opened up when the body of an innocent 9-month-old baby boy placed in a coffin was taken out in a hearse from the house in Taman Indah Sakthi, Bercham here yesterday.
It was raining cats and dogs when the priest was performing the prayers for Seshagiry before the hearse left the house. The body was buried at the Buntong Crematorium at about 11.30am.
Family members could not hold back their tears on seeing the body while friends were saddened over the tragedy.

Help little Cai Wai lead normal life
It was smooth sailing for Chai Mui Lee during her first year of motherhood.
However, the 34 year old had been living a nightmare in the past few months because her 19-month-old toddler had poor appetite and was often panting while being fed.
Teo Cai Wai has also barely grown compared with other children her age as she weighs only 6kg.
Chai took her daughter to Sultanah Aminah Hospital in Johor Baru for a check-up and initially, doctors diagnosed her as having a feeding problem.
After their second trip to the hospital, Teo was referred to Gleaneagles Kuala Lumpur and was diagnosed as having congenital heart defect with two holes in her heart.
"I was speechless when the doctor told me and my husband that our baby will not be able to have a normal life without surgery."

DPM: Nasi lemak will not be taken off school canteen menu
Nasi lemak will not be taken off the school canteen menu, Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said.
Even if it were to be dropped, canteen operators should be given time to come up with a new menu, he said.
Muhyiddin said the views of everyone concerned, including the operators, would be considered before deciding on what food could be sold in schools.

NGOs chew up nasi lemak rule protests again restriction of nasi lemak sales in school.
A coalition of Malay non-governmental organisations yesterday voiced dissatisfaction with the Health Ministry's decision to restrict the sale of nasi lemak in school canteens.
Representing the 15-member coalition, Muslim Consumers Association of Malaysia adviser Tunku Azwil Tunku Abdul Razak said the ministry based the restriction on unsound facts.
"Not all people who eat nasi lemak are obese. There is no proof that says nasi lemak is the cause of child obesity."
