Cosplay killing: No indication girl was raped, post-mortem reveals

The body of Ng Yuk Tim was found stuffed into a green suitcase, clad in a T-shirt and underwear, but did not show any signs of sexual abuse.

Selangor deputy police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Abdul Rahim Jaafar said a post-mortem conducted at the Universiti Malaya Medical Centre (UMMC) showed that Ng died of severe head injuries due to three heavy blows to the head and there was no evidence to suggest she was raped.

He also said her body bore no post-mortem injuries from placing her into the suitcase.

"She was discovered in a fetal position," he said when contacted Wednesday.

"There were no signs that her joints were broken in order to fit her into the suitcase.

"We have recorded the statements of more than two individuals, including the victim's parents as well as the 23-year-old main suspect.

Her brother, Edwin, 26, lodged a police report yesterday seeking police assistance to locate.

He said he not only feared for her safety but that she would also be sitting for her SPM exam in November.

In his police report, Edwin said his sister left their family home in Lane 3, Jalan Kenari at about 3.30pm on Oct 7.

He believed a man had come to fetch her.

Cosplay killing: Suspect’s confession not admissible in court

A confession alone is not admissible in court and it does not mean that the person who confessed has committed a crime, said a criminologist.

Prof Dr P. Sundramoorthy, from the School of Sciences in Universiti Sains Malaysia, said that the law was amended a few years ago so that confessions did not carry weight in court anymore.

“We can’t make assumptions. A confession alone does not mean the person is guilty.

The person could be mentally ill or covering up for someone,” he said.

He was commenting on the 23-year-old man who was remanded on Wednesday for the murder of 15-year-old Ng Yuk Tim.

The man supposedly confessed killing Ng to Selangor Community Policing founder Kuan Chee Hong.

Suspect admitted to the killing, says crime watcher

A community crime watcher said the man who last saw 15-year-old Ng Yuk Tim alive had confessed to killing her.

The 23-year-old suspect, who initially claimed that he had dropped the girl off at the Kelana Jaya LRT station at 2pm on Monday, had admitted that he lied, said Selangor Community Policing founder Kuan Chee Hong (pic).

He repeatedly questioned the man on what happened to the girl before he got the confession, Kuan told reporters after handing the suspect to the Petaling Jaya police.

Kuan added that the suspect confessed to trying to rape Ng in his house and had hit her with a dumbbell when she resisted.

Kuan said he met Yuk Tim’s mother at a restaurant in Kelana Jaya after she asked him to help her find her daughter.

In Malaysia, more students getting HIV, many through sex

Young Malaysians between the ages of 20 and 39 formed the largest segment of those infected with HIV over a five-year period.

That is pretty much general knowledge, but the most alarming piece of statistic is the dramatic jump in the number of students contracting HIV.

The total number of new cases of Malaysians infected with HIV and AIDS had held steady over the five years since 2008.

The number of cases in 2008 was 4,633, while in 2012, the figure was 4,799.

The number of deaths from HIV and AIDS over the period, however, declined from 1,050 in 2008 to 702 in 2012.

Child abuse girl caned until coma Remand extended for parents of brutally-caned girl

A remand order against the parents of a five-year-old suspected child abuse victim, currently fighting for her life at the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital, has been extended till Wednesday.

The girl, who was brutally caned, has been warded at the hospital's intensive care unit.

The extension order for the remand was issued by Magistrate's court registrar Puteri Nor Dina Kamalaudin this morning, to facilitate police investigations.

The victim's 39-year-old father and 30-year-old mother, from Menglembu, were previously remanded for three days, beginning last Saturday.

On Saturday, Ipoh police chief ACP Sum Chang Keong said initial investigations revealed the child was taken to the hospital by a family member, a day earlier.

Children watched as father assaults mother in a lift

Two small children were caught in a nightmarish situation when their father started beating up their mother in the lift of a private hospital here after an argument.

The incident was recorded on CCTV and went viral on the Internet after it was uploaded on several social networking sites, including Facebook and YouTube.

In the three-minute clip uploaded on Monday by the woman’s younger brother, the burly man is seen repeatedly slapping and punching his tudung-clad wife while their two children watched helplessly.

One of the kids, a five-year-old girl, even pleaded for her father to stop but her requests were ignored.

At one point, the woman’s tudung (headscarf) came off as the man continued to rain punches on her.

Your silence is deafening, DAP tells Muhyiddin

The Education Minister’s silence and inaction in the SK Seri Pristana issue is sending out the wrong message to educators in schools nationwide.

DAP's national vice-chairman M. Kula Segaran said Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin’s indifference to the plight of whistleblower Guneswari Kelly, who had to transfer her daughter to a vernacular school, has angered the public.

Guneswari, a parent of a pupil at the school, had exposed how non-Muslim pupils at the school were made to have their recess in a shower room during the Ramadan month after she posted a photo on Facebook.

Her nine-year-old daughter had suffered after that when she became the target of abuse by teachers of the school.

Two days ago, Guneswari told The Malaysian Insider that she will transfer her daughter to a vernacular school in Subang as a result of the bullying. The mother had also been the target of threats.

Seri Pristana whistleblower transfers daughter to vernacular school

The whistleblower parent who exposed how non-Muslim pupils at the SK Seri Pristana had been made to have their recess in a shower room has removed her daughter from the school.

Guneswari Kelly said she is putting her daughter in a vernacular school in Subang, adding she made this decision after her child allegedly was shamed during school assemblies and subjected to constant racial slurs by teachers and schoolmates.

"One of her teachers harassed her by accusing her of bringing shame to the school. She also told my daughter she was not fit to be a pupil of the school," Guneswari told The Malaysian Insider today.

Missing 3 year old Aisyah reunited with mum

Arbaiyah Md Zin, reunited with her three-year-old daughter.

The mother of a three-year-old girl who was found in Penang after being reported missing in Rawang, Selangor, has been questioned by Penang police.

Arbaiyah Md Zin emerged from the Sungai Nibong station with her daughter, Wan Aisyah Exzam, at about 6.40pm after almost two hours with police officers.

They were with a man, believed to be her former husband.

Arbaiyah refused to speak to reporters but the man thanked the police for their assistance in locating the child. He also said that they had bought new Raya clothes for the girl.

RM20 - that's the going price for a child prostitute

For six child prostitutes, their asking price was a mere RM20 per session and psychotropic pills to get them high.

The six, all under 14-years-old, were detained during an anti-narcotics operation by several enforcement agencies.

When questioned, they admitted to willingly selling themselves to the sex trade to feed their drug habit.

Authorities found it difficult to prosecute those who had sex with these underage girls as the identities of the clients were not known.

“And, the girls refuse to name them,” said state welfare, woman and family development chairman Datuk Latipah Omar.

34 people were arrested during a drug raid at an oill palm plantation near the Sungai Udang Prison in Melaka. One of the man who was arrested during the raid left his four-year-old daughter alone in his car.

The lure of a quick 'fix' was simply too irresistible for a man.
He left his four-year-old daughter alone in his car and parked it by the road-shoulder to beat a path, deep inside an oil palm plantation to buy drugs from a supplier.

This was what the police learnt when they arrested the man during a drug raid at an oil palm plantation near the Sungai Udang Prison here yesterday.

During the 12-hour drug raid, beginning 6am, a police team picked up 34 people aged between 26 and 62.

Mother in Seri Pristana row claims child threatened

Although the authorities have declared the SRK Seri Pristana fiasco “closed”, it appears the fallout over the incident is not yet over.

The mother who triggered an Internet firestorm by posting images of students eating in the bathroom of the school says she is now being threatened for exposing the matter online.

After lodging a police on the anonymous threats pouring in on social network Facebook, Guneswari Kelly said she was now under concerted attack simply for voicing out her opinion on the school’s decision, which has since been deemed inappropriate by authorities.

“How else am I supposed to express my concerns? Can’t they understand this?” she was quoted as saying by news portal The Malaysian Insider.

The threats allegedly made on Facebook included that of bodily harm and the abduction of her child.

“These people did not identify themselves and I am afraid they would do something to my daughter,” Guneswari said in the report.

12 police reports lodged over Sungai Buloh school controversy

Police have received 12 police reports over the SK Seri Pristana controversy where non-Muslim pupils were shown having their meals in the shower room.

Sungai Buloh police chief Superintendent Junaidi Bujang said 10 reports were from parents and even outsiders, who wanted action taken against the school authorities.

"There were also two reports from the headmaster and a teacher who claimed that they were threatened," said Junaidi, adding that their reports have been classified as criminal intimidation.

Headmaster Mohamad Nasir Mohd Noor, 57, claimed that he had received death threats by people who had called the school office.

Junaidi added that the other staff, a teacher, had lodged a report alleging that the issue had been blown out of proportion and has caused the staff in the school to feel demotivated and lose their focus on teaching.

Headmaster and PTA chairman defend controversial meals decision

The headmaster of a Sungai Buloh primary school has said that Muslim and non-Muslim students had been using the school’s changing room since March to have their meals.

The SK Seri Pristana headmaster Mohd Nasir Mohd Noor said the increased enrolment and space shortage in the canteen had prompted the decision.

He also stressed that he would never discriminate against his pupils, pointing out that the changing room was clean and that it was the closest room to the canteen.

“I did not mean any harm to the pupils,” The Star today reported him as saying. The paper reported that when it visited the school yesterday, the headmaster and the head of the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) looked distressed as officers from various government departments questioned them repeatedly on the subject, while Mohd Nasir had to answer his mobile phone every few minutes.

Sungai Buloh school was wrong, say Muslim scholars

Muslim scholars have frowned on measures taken by a school in Sungai Buloh in protecting the sanctity of the fasting month by ordering its non-Muslim students to have their meals in a shower room.

They said this was not the right way for the school to educate its non-Muslim pupils on how to respect those who are fasting.

Former Perlis mufti Datuk Dr Mohd Asri Zainul Abidin said: “Obviously what the school in Sungai Buloh had done was wrong.”

“Even if the school wanted to educate the non-Muslim pupils to respect their fellow students who are fasting they could have done it in a better way,” he said.

“This incident should not have taken place as non-muslims are not required to fast,” he said.

Dr Asri suggested the school advice its pupils on the do’s and don’ts during the fasting month.

As we entered the school grounds at about 6pm yesterday, the headmaster and the head of the Parent-Teacher Association looked distressed as officers from various government departments questioned them repeatedly on why the pupils had been moved to the changing room.

They showed us the changing room which was very clean at the time.

Education Ministry orders school to stop forcing pupils to eat in shower room

The Education Ministry has ordered a Sungai Buloh school to stop ordering its non-Muslims pupils to have their recess meals in the school’s shower room.

Deputy Education Minister P. Kamalanathan in a tweet said he had requested SK Seri Pristana in Sungai Buloh to immediately make a more suitable place available.

Expressing shock over the incident, Kamalanathan told The Malaysian Insider that while the holy month of Ramadan was to be observed with respect by Muslims, non-Muslims should be given the space to meals as usual.

"The month is sacred to our Muslim brothers and sisters and there should be mutual respect. This, however, should not translate to demanding that non-Muslims not eat their meals in public places, in this case the young students.

Post-mortem shows baby choked to death on milk

A post-mortem on a six-month-old girl who died at a nursery in Taman Impian Murni, Alma here yesterday, has confirmed the baby choked on milk.

Seberang Perai Tengah police chief ACP Azman Abd Lah said Bukit Mertajam Hospital staff found milk in the lungs of the baby, Cyndi Koay Xin Lin.

The case was classifed as sudden death, he said.

“At the moment, there is no criminal element in the baby’s death,” he said when contacted here today.

He said initial investigations revealed that Xin Lin was under the care of a woman, in her 40’s, who was an acquaintance of the deceased’s parents.

DPM: Stern action against school if meals-in-toilet allegations true

Putrajaya pledged stern action today against the authorities of a primary school if allegations that it had forced its non-Muslim students to eat in the toilets during Ramadan are proven true.

Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, who is also the education minister, confirmed on his Twitter page this afternoon that the incident will be investigated and punishment meted to those responsible.

“Saya telah mengarahkan KPPM utk siasat isu pelajar bukan Islam yg disuruh makan di dalam tandas. Tindakan tegas akan diambil jika ada asas,” Muhyiddin wrote on the microblogging site.
