NFCorp takes aim at news portals, MP over reports on buyout

The company responsible for the scandalised National Feedlot Centre (NFC) plans to sue news portals The Malaysian Insider and Free Malaysia Today along with lawmaker Rafizi Ramli over reports on its takeover by a Japanese-Malaysian venture.

On July 9, The Malaysian Insider reported the National Feedlot Corporation (NFCorp) operated by the spouse of Wanita Umno chief Datuk Seri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil will be taken over by Kirimitonas Agro Sdn Bhd but that the latter will not be assuming the former firm’s liabilities that included a RM250 million federal loan.

Yesterday, NFCorp chairman and Shahrizat’s husband Datuk Seri Dr Mohamad Salleh Ismail told a news conference that Kirimitonas Agro was putting the RM250 million debt in its books.

Shahrizat will not contest in GE13

Wanita Umno chief Datuk Seri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil today confirmed that she will not be contesting in the 13th general election.

Shahrizat, who is also Wanita Barisan Nasional (BN) chief, said the 13th general election was not a good time for her to contest,maybe due to her family scandal in misuse of governemnt fund in National Cow Feed programs, but to help strengthen the Wanita election machinery to ensure victory for BN.

"Although I'm the army general for Wanita, it doesn't necessarily mean thatI have to contest. I'm a realistic person, the time for me will come, but not during the 13th general election," she told a press conference here today.

Shahrizat began her political career in 1982 when she was appointed as Kepong Baru Wanita Umno chief and climbed the ladder to lead Wanita Umno as its chief for 2008/2011 term after defeating Tan Sri Rafidah Aziz.

Mat Zain: ‘No doubt’ Shahrizat’s husband, children committed multiple CBT

Former senior police officer Datuk Mat Zain Ibrahim asserted today that the National Feedlot Corporation’s (NFCorp) controversial condominium purchases are clear examples of CBT (criminal breach of trust), adding the Attorney-General should have “no doubt” of this when deciding whether to press charges.

Mat Zain said that based on provisions in Section 409 of the Penal Code, the husband and children of minister Datuk Seri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil, who run the NFCorp, should each be slapped with numerous counts of CBT.

If convicted, the former KL CID chief said they would be liable to a jail term of between two and 20 years, whipping and a fine.

Shahrizat says will stay on as Wanita chief

Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil said today that she would not bow down to pressure from any quarters to resign as Wanita Umno chief.

Shahrizat said it was nothing unusual for political leaders to face pressure and that this was all part and parcel of politics.

"If there are people who know the workings of Wanita Umno and are calling me to quit, it must be because they have their own agendas," she said when met at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport here today.

She said the quit calls would not dampen her spirit but only make her stronger in continuing to serve society.

As to her Cabinet post, Shahrizat said she was leaving this to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak to decide. "I respect his (Najib's) leadership. So the decision whether I should remain in the Cabinet or not is up to him."

Can Putrajaya clarify whose assets were frozen, Kit Siang asks

DAP’s Lim Kit Siang pushed the federal government to explain the prime minister’s asset freeze announcement on the scandal-tainted RM336.64 million national cattle farming project.

The veteran lawmaker said that the government needed the clear the air over allegations of confusion between which NFC it had acted on, whether it was the national feedlot centre project, or the national feedlot corporation that it picked to run the operations.

“With the claim that the Auditor-General had confused the two entities, NFC and NFCorp, Malaysians want to know whether the freezing of assets announced by the Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak earlier this month was with regard to NFC or NFCorp or both,” he said in a statement today.

Rafizi ‘glad’ Sharizat’s suing

Rafizi Ramli welcomed the defamation suit filed by Datuk Seri Shahrizat Jalil against him today, saying it would help uncover more dirt on the scandal-hit National Feedlot Corporation (NFC).

The PKR strategic director said he was “more than glad” to go to court as this would allow him to subpoena NFC for company documents which could buttress the party’s claims against Shahrizat and her family.

Ruling disabled - Only one ministry lived up to govt’s one per cent OKU aspiration

ONLY one out of 10 ministries has fulfilled the requirement to employ the minimum number of disabled employees.

Figures from the Social Welfare Department (JKM) reveals the Women, Family and Community Development Ministry is the only government body to have exceeded the minimum one per cent of disabled people required in its total workforce.

The ministry recorded 2.97 per cent of new disabled intakes from its total intake of 245 staff last year.

It is a far cry from the other nine ministries, which did not even meet the one per cent quota.

They include the Federal Territories and Urban Wellbeing Ministry, Prime Minister’s Department, Science,
Technology and Innovation Ministry, Information, Communication and Culture Ministry, Transport Ministry, Tourism Ministry, Higher Education Ministry, Human Resources Ministry and Energy, Green Technology and Water Ministry. (see table)

No decision on Shahrizat, says Muhyiddin

Shahrizat has denied any involvement in the NFC.


The Cabinet has not decided whether Datuk Seri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil must leave government due to the RM250 million National Feedlot Centre scandal, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said today.

The deputy prime minister shook his head and said, “No, no”, when asked if Cabinet had decided on whether the women, family and community development minister must resign or be sacked.

The Wanita Umno chief has faced growing calls to resign, including from Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, after repeated allegations including the use of public funds to purchase land and property worth RM27 million unrelated to the national cattle farming project.

Answer: I am not angry because his (Parti Keadilan Rakyat strategy director Rafizi Ramli) allegations are not true.


But I am sad because everyone believes them. Rafizi has made allegations. I pity him. His intentions are not good. We do not even know him. In fact, we were surprised.

But we know it is a political ploy because we have not failed in our business. The first year, we were struggling to find the right people to sell us cattle... in Australia and other countries, marketing experts, and all the know-how. We are new. The second year, we kicked off the project and the third year we are doing a lot better.

Anyone knows that for any big business, the first two years are difficult. But with proper planning and strategies, the third year onwards, there are profits to be shown.

Question: Who leaked out the details?

Answer: Two of my high ranking staff. One resigned two weeks' ago, taking with him a thumbdrive that had half the details. The other resigned about few months ago. We have made police reports against them.

We noticed that the thumbdrive was missing only on Tuesday. The two of them have only half the information that is why they told the opposition half the story.

Datuk linked to NFC case re-arrested

A businessman who was remanded since Thursday to facilitate in the investigation into the National Feedlot Corporation (NFC) case was re-arrested today in connection with an alleged cheating case.

His lawyer Datuk Ahmad Damanhuri Mohd Yusof told reporters his client was re-arrested by policemen from the Commercial Crimes Investigation Division of the Dang Wangi Police headquarters after being released from the Bukit Jalil police detention centre at around noon.

Cops nab Datuk for offering bribe to officers probing NFC

: Cops arrested a Datuk for allegedly trying to bribe officers investigating a commercial crime believed to be linked to the controversial National Feedlot Centre (NFC) funds issue.

Police obtained a court order on Thursday to remand the businessman until Friday.

The remand order was issued against the 45-year-old man by magistrate Tengku Eliana Tuan Kamarulzaman Thursday afternoon at the Bukit Jalil Police Station Temporary Detention Centre, near here.

The man, who was taken in a police car, arrived at the Bukit Jalil Police Station at 9am.

Man held in bribery bid over NFC probe, says MACC

Police have arrested a man who allegedly tried to bribe senior officers investigating a high-profile commercial crime, which anti-graft officials say is linked to the National Feedlot Corporation (NFC) scandal.

The police obtained a remand order from the magistrates court today for the 45-year-old man.

The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) said the man is now in their custody as part of their investigations into the case.

Bung Mokhtar sticks to stand that Shahrizat must quit over NFC

Datuk Bung Mokhtar Radin today stood his ground and repeated his stand that Datuk Seri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil resign over the cattle scandal, despite growing criticisms from within Umno over his position.

The Kinabatangan MP’s action has earned him the ire and scorn of Umno supporters, with pro-Umno bloggers criticising him and going out of their way to defend the embattled Shahrizat.

In response, the outspoken Umno supreme council member said he was “well aware” that his remarks have made him unpopular among members within his own party, but stressed that the reason he did so was out of concern for the future of the Malay party.

Cops say no CBT in NFC discovered so far

Police investigations have not revealed any element of criminal breach of trust so far in the National Feedlot Corporation (NFC) managed by the family of Cabinet minister Datuk Seri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil.

Deputy Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Khalid Abu Bakar said today that police had interviewed over 74 people in connection with the probe, including family members of the women, family and community development minister.

The "Taxis for Women" service can also be used by the elderly, children and family, says Deputy Women, Family and Community Development Minister Senator Datuk Heng Seai Kie.

"Although priority is given to women, the service could also be a boon to these groups as we believe they are also vulnerable to attacks when left alone with irresponsible male drivers," she told the New Straits Times yesterday.

Heng said the budget taxi service, which only covered the Klang Valley at present, was the ministry's pilot project to see the effectiveness of having such a service.

The ministry will gather feedback for a year before implementing the scheme in other states.

"It is one of our plans to have such a service nationwide. But we have to look at the feedback first to determine any weakness and improve on it before doing so."

PKR claims NFC funded umrah packages, Singapore firms

Funds meant for the National Feedlot Centre (NFC) were used to fund umrah packages and set up two Singapore-based companies, both owned by Senator Datuk Seri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil’s family, PKR alleged today.

In their latest round of exposes on the scandal-tainted federally-funded cattle project, PKR leaders claimed to have proof that NFC executive chairman Datuk Seri Mohamad Salleh Ismail, Shahrizat’s husband, had ordered payment of RM31,580 to be made for his and his son Wan Shahinur Izran Mohamad Salleh’s haj pilgrimage in 2010.

“PKR has clear proof that orders for the umrah package to be paid using this public fund had come from the NFC executive chairman’s office,” PKR secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution (picture) said today.

Shahrizat not directly involved in NFC, says DPM

The call made by Barisan Nasional (BN) backbenchers' deputy chief Datuk Bung Mokhtar Radin, the BN's Kinabatangan Member of Parliament, for Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil to resign is unwarranted and uncalled for.

At a Press conference here yesterday, Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said that Agriculture and Agro-based Industries Minister Datuk Seri Noh Omar had already given a lengthy and comprehensive explanation following the National Feedlot Corporation Sdn Bhd's (NFC) fiasco as revealed by the Auditor-General’s 2010 Report recently.

“Shahrizat is not directly involved in NFC because this is the company’s operational matter managed by her family. Whether Bung's comment is called for, it is up to him to figure it out himself," said Muhyiddin, also Education Minister, in coming to Shahrizat's defence.

Dogged by claims of irregularity, the National Feedlot Corporation (NFC) finally broke its silence today to defend its purchase of multi-million luxury condominum units in Bangsar as a “good business decision”.

In a press briefing opened to selected mainstream media organisations, its chairman Datuk Seri Dr Mohamad Salleh reasoned that the investment had helped yield better returns for the NFC project compared to keeping the money in a bank.

It was also revealed then that the NFC owns two units at the upmarket condominium, as opposed to one as previously reported.

According to Berita Harian Online, however, Mohamad said the condominium units had cost over RM6 million each, instead of the RM9.8 million originally alleged by PKR.
