Motorist shot at close range by 2 men on bike

A man was shot by two assailants on a motorcyle while he was driving at a housing area in Chemor near here on Wednesday night.

The 29-year-old victim received four gun shot wounds at close range when the assailants took aim at his life at Taman Klebang Putra, about 18km from here.

The assailants neared the victim's car before they fired six shots, four of which hit the victim. The incident happened around 11.15pm.

According to Ipoh police chief Assistant Commissioner Sum Chang Keong, there were two other people inside the car who were believed to be the victim's family members.

"The two others however, are unharmed. Police found six slugs on the road where the shooting had taken place.

"As for the assailants, no one could recognise them as they were wearing full-faced helmets," he told reporters after attending a Hari Raya open house at the Pekan Baru police station here on Thursday.

He said the victim had been hospitalised at the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital and his condition was reported to be "stable and not critical".

Sum said the victim was believed to be an outsider and added that police was investigating the case.

Presently in the intensive care unit of the hospital, he said police would record statement from the victim when the latter was able to speak.

The latest shooting incident in Ipoh area occurred less than two weeks after 25-year-old Jasrafveenderjeet Singh was shot dead in front of a restaurant in Simee on July 29. Two others were injured in the same incident.

In another incident in early July, two friends S. Kaviventhen, 28, and S. Chandrasekhar, 26, were found dead with gun shot wounds in bushes about 1km from the Ampang Selatan toll plaza of the North-South Expressway.
