Cops recover three pistols from 04 gang shootout

Penang police recovered three pistols from the suspected members of the notorious 04 gang who were killed in a shootout at the Century Bay service apartments in Pantai Jerejak here earlier today.

Early reports showed four of the suspects had past criminal convictions including for dadah offences and having placed as a restricted resident. One of the suspects, aged 21 from Bagan Jermal, Butterworth, has no past criminal conviction. His body was recovered in a room together with another gang member, aged 25.

A revolver was found in the room of the three-bedroom apartment of the 15-storey complex, located about one kilometre from the Pesta Pulau Pinang expo site in Sungai Nibong.

The body of the third suspect, aged 23, from Medan Penaga here, was recovered in the middle room. Another revolver was also recovered from the room. The body of the remaining two suspects, aged 27 and 31, were recovered in the main room. Another pistol was recovered from them.

Police sources said the suspects, believed to be reponsible for a spate of shootings, including a number of fatal cases involving members of rival gangs in Penang since early this year, opened fire after police ordered them to open the door.

IGP Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar will hold a Press conference on the shoot-out at the state police mess in Jalan Lahad at 3pm.
