Two men died while three others sustained injuries when their high-powered motorcycles crashed into a tanker at Km38 Jalan Kota Tinggi-Johor Baru at 12.20pm today.

The five men were part of a motorcycle convoy travelling from Kuala Lumpur to Kuala Terengganu.


Abdul Rashid Mansor, 48, from Taman Ibai Indah Golf Resort, and Mohamad Hisham Salleh, 36, from Kampung Gemuroh, Marang, Terengganu, died on the spot.
The injured - Saufi Said, 48, and Anisar Muhammad, 49, were warded at the Sultan Ismail Hospital in Johor Baru while Muhd Zulkeri Embong, 45, sustained light injuries and was sent to the Kota Tinggi Hospital for treatment.

Kota Tinggi district police chief Mohd Nor Rasid said preliminary investigations showed the tanker lost control and veered into the oncoming lane when the driver braked to avoid hitting a car in front of it.

He said the driver of the tanker was detained and appealed for eye-witnesses to contact the police to assist in investigations.
