Meanwhile A nurse entrusted with taking care of her six-year-old niece has been arrested for abusing the girl.

The girl's family had sent her to live with her aunt and uncle at the army camp in Paya Jaras here.

However, a neighbour, suspecting the child was being abused, took her to the Sungai Buloh Hospital on Tuesday.

The examining doctor, upon discovering bruises all over the girl's body, burn marks on her thighs and stitches on her head, then lodged a police report.

Sungai Buloh OCPD Supt Junaidi Bujang said the 28-year-old aunt was arrested at her home in the army barracks and placed her under remand.

She is being investigated under Section 31(1)a of the Child Act 2001.

"The suspect's husband was not aware of the abuse as he had been away on a 10-day training exercise during the abuse.

"He only learnt about it after returning," Supt Junaidi said.
