"I will never forget our last family picnic in Taman Perbandaran Pulau Pinang last week.

Her husband, Tajudin Zainal Abidin, was killed when the 30m ramp of the Second Penang Bridge collapsed on Thursday.

The body of 45-year-old Tajudin, a former policeman, was extricated from his mangled Perodua Kelisa more than 24 hours later. After her husband's burial at the Batu 39 Muslim cemetery in Bukit Merah near here at 3am yesterday, Sharifah said she was still coming to terms with Tajudin's death.

"My husband was excited when he took me and our children for a picnic in Penang. We managed to spend some of our happiest moments then. He was a quiet man. I did not expect that his cheerful behaviour then was a sign that he would leave us forever."

Hundreds of family members and friends turned up to pay their last respects to Tajudin.

Sharifah's father, Ramli Taib, 69, said he last met his son-in-law when the latter returned to vote.

"He was a wonderful son-in-law and always tried to fulfil all his children's wishes."

Tajudin leaves behind Sharifah, and daughters Nur Aina Shazwani, 11, and Nur Ain Maisara, 7.
