Remove member who may be linked to Teoh’s case, EAIC urged

The Enforcement Agency Integrity Commission (EAIC) has been urged to remove one of its members from its task force on custodial deaths if it is proven that he was involved in the fatal investigation of political aide Teoh Beng Hock.

DAP members of parliament Steven Sim Chee Keong and Zairil Khir Johari queried whether Mohd Nadzri Ibrahim - whom they claimed was the sole investigating officer on the task force – is the same person implicated in Teoh’s death in 2009.

“We have reason to believe that the investigating officer was a former officer with the Selangor Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) involved in the case of the late Teoh Beng Hock.

“If it is true, it means that an officer who was once involved in a case of death in custody is now assigned to investigate other cases of death in custody. That will bring the EAIC’s integrity under question,” they said in a joint statement.

Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission deputy commissioner Datuk Mohd Shukri Abdul, when contacted, said that Mohd Nadzri was not involved in questioning Teoh.

“He was only involved in recording statements while another officer questioned Teoh,” he said.

Sim and Zairil, citing news reports on Teoh’s case, claimed that an MACC investigating officer by the same name as Mohd Nadzri was the officer who recorded Teoh’s statement in connection to a corruption probe on the night leading to the latter’s death.
