Quick action leads to robbers' arrest


Policemen gathering around a robbery suspect nabbed near Kampung Sri Parit following a jewellery store heist yesterday.



Quick action by police resulted in the arrest of a robber five minutes after a gang of four robbed a jewellery store in Lukut here yesterday.

Another robber was arrested 20 minutes after the first arrest and part of the loot recovered.

Port Dickson police chief Superintendent Abd Wahab Harun said in the 9.30am incident, the jewellery store owner and three of his workers were opening the shop.

"Four men wearing full-face helmets appeared. One of them took out a gun and fired a warning shot into the air.

"Another took out a sledgehammer and broke several glass displays as their accomplices emptied several trays of jewellery into two black bags."

Wahab said the gang fled on two motorcycles and headed towards nearby Kampung Sri Parit.

Several policemen on their rounds in the area were alerted by the public and pursued the robbers.

Wahab said within five minutes, they managed to stop one of the motorcycles near Kampung Sri Parit, about 3km from the jewellery store.

"They arrested one of the suspects but his accomplice ran off into the jungle. However, 20 minutes later, policemen found the suspect about 500m away and arrested him while he was running."

He police have launched a manhunt for the remaining two suspects using K-9 tracking dogs as police believed both were still hiding in the area.
