Muar schools closed as API reaches hazardous level



All 211 schools in Muar have been ordered closed for two days as the Air Pollutant Index reached a hazardous level of 383 in the district this morning.

Johor Education director Datuk Md Noh A. Ghani said all sports and outdoor activities will be cancelled.

The schools comprise some 15,000 students, he said.

Meanwhile, Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamad Khaled Nordin has urged the Indonesian government to look into the matter as it has turned into an annual occurence.

He also said operation rooms in the state have been activated to monitor the air quality.

He urged the public to stay indoors.
