DAP mulls over action against Er for snubbing boycott

Just the one: Ahmad Shabery and MCA Youth chief Datuk Dr Wee Ka Siong jesting with Er – the sole opposition MP – at Parliament House.

DAP will deliberate on whether action will be taken against its Bakri MP Er Teck Hwa who has apologised for attending the Parliament briefing despite a boycott by Pakatan Rakyat, said party national organising secretary Anthony Loke.

Er created a stir yesterday when he was the only one of the 89 Pakatan Rakyat MPs who attended the briefing for parliamentarians.

Loke said Er was issued a show-cause letter to explain his action which went against party orders.

However, Loke made it clear that DAP would not be boycotting the MPs swearing-in ceremony on June 24.

“He has responded and publicly apologised via Facebook.

“We will deliberate on whether his apology is sufficient or if he needs to be penalised further and referred to the disciplinary committee. No decision has been made yet,” Loke said yesterday.

Er in his Facebook posting apologised for his actions and said he would accept the consequences.

“We will deliberate on whether his apology is sufficient or if he needs to be penalised further and referred to the disciplinary committee. No decision has been made yet,” Loke said yesterday.

Er in his Facebook posting apologised for his actions and said he would accept the consequences.

“My attendance today has obviously been unacceptable by the central committee although an explanation has been given.

“Any action that may be taken against me is considered reasonable and I accept the consequences,” he said.

In an earlier statement, Er acknowledged that he had missed the e-mail that had been sent on the boycott order.

“Right after the parliamentary briefing, I was asked by the media on my attendance. I immediately double-checked with the DAP Central Committee which confirmed that the (boycott) notice had been sent out last week.

“I would like to express my most sincere apologies for my inappropriate action and humbly accept any disciplinary action that might be taken against me.”

On his presence at the briefing. Communications and Multimedia Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Shabery Cheek tweeted: “Hanya 1 orng MP pembangkang yg hadir majlis taklimat Parlimen. Yg lain tak iktiraf?” (Only one opposition MP attended the parliament briefing. The others did not give it recognition?).
