Clerk charged with stealing RM147,826

Noorhidayah Mohd Noor being led out of the Sessions Court in Johor Baru after she was charged with criminal breach of trust yesterday

An accounts clerk was charged at the Sessions Court yesterday with criminal breach of trust of 11 cheques totalling RM147,826 belonging to her employer.

Noorhidayah Mohd Noor, 23, from Ulu Tiram here, was alleged to have deposited the cheques into her CIMB account instead of making payments to customers of Momentum Cargo Logistics (M) Sdn Bhd, which was operating at the Tropical Inn Hotel here.

She pleaded not guilty to committing the offence between March 14 and Oct 31, 2010, while she was working for the company.

Deputy public prosecutor Nor Iffa Zarilla Abd Rahman urged the court to set bail at RM20,000 as the charge was serious.

However, Noorhidayah's counsel, V. Roy Rajasingam, asked for the amount to be lowered as his client, now working at a hotel, had to support her sick father and three siblings who were still in school.

Judge Muhammad Jamil Hussin set bail at RM10,000 in one surety and fixed June 17 for mention.
