Armed robbers grab RM200,000 from businessman



Armed with a parang, three men fled with RM200,000, after robbing a businessman in front of a bank in Ayer Tawar here today.
In the 3.15pm incident, the suspects who came in an Audi, intercepted the victim's four-wheel drive before pointing the parang at him.

Although the victim was armed with a pistol, the suspects managed to flee with the money, which was placed at the back passenger seat of the vehicle.

Manjung district police chief Assistant Commissioner Jaafar Baba said the 48-year-old victim fired three shots -- two towards the getaway car and one towards the suspects -- but to no avail.

"The suspects, all spotting baseball caps, drove away towards Ipoh," he said when met at the scene.

Jaafar said checks showed the suspect's car was fitted with a false registration plate.

The case is being investigated under Section 395 of the Penal Code armed gang robbery.

Eye-witnesses have been urged to call investigation officer Inspector Shahrin Mohamad at 019-515 2917 or any of the nearest police station.

Meanwhile, the victim, who only wanted to be known as Datuk Kok, said he had just withdrew the money from a bank to pay his staff's salaries and for his business.

"Soon after I stepped out of the bank, the suspects came towards me and pointed the parang to my neck, leaving me shock and unable to do anything," he added.
