Adnan a hit at 'Jom Heboh' carnival

Pahang Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Adnan Yaakob getting a big hand as he cycles around the field on a postman’s bicycle during TV3’s ‘Jom Heboh’ carnival in Kuantan yesterday.

Visitors at TV3's 'Jom Heboh' carnival at Padang MPK 2 here had a pleasant surprise yesterday when Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Adnan Yaakob got on a bicycle at the Pos Malaysia Berhad booth and went for a ride around the field.

Adnan, wearing a black postman's hat, showed off his cycling skills as he took the red bicycle, previously used by postal workers to deliver letters and parcels, on a short trip.

Those present, including children at the nearby exhibition booths, cheered loudly while others quickly whipped out handphones to snap the moment.

Adnan became an instant favourite at the carnival because, besides visiting the booths, he also participated in a cooking show by helping to prepare rendang.

Many were seen following Adnan during his visit to the exhibitions booths.

Upon completing his tour, Adnan opted to rest under a big shady tree near the field instead of going into the air-conditioned waiting room.

Adnan described the carnival as an ideal event for the family as there were many activities all day long, besides allowing people to buy many products at low prices.

He said the event also helped to promote the state capital and boost tourism, as those who attended the exhibition would also visit nearby places.

Thousands of people thronged the first day of the carnival yesterday to walk away with lucky draw hampers and goodie bags, which were handed out at participating booths.

As the number of visitors began to increase in the afternoon, the venue transformed into a sea of colours with the crowd, especially youths, seizing the opportunity to meet artistes and television personalities.

Booths selling various products, ranging from food items to clothes, also made brisk sales as visitors bought items at discounted prices.

Media Prima Berhad chief operating officer for television networks Ahmad Izham Omar said some changes had been carried out for the fourth location of the carnival here to fulfil the family concept, namely introducing a cooking show and a children's programme.

He hoped visitors benefited from the programmes and exhibitions, besides meeting television personalities and local celebrities.

The highlight of the two-day carnival is a concert, which will feature artistes, including Estranged, Azlan & The Typewriter and The Pilgrims, at 8pm today.
