Xenophon warns of possible fraud in GE13

Australian Senator Nick Xenophon believes there is a “clear momentum” for change in Malaysia but has warned of possible fraud in the general election today.

“The election could well be stolen because of widespread election fraud, gerrymandering,” he told Sky News today.

Xenophon was deported as a security risk when he arrived here last February as part of an unofficial parliamentary delegation to review the country’s electoral system.

He remains on a Malaysian ban list.

Pakatan Rakyat (PR) leaders have spoken out against possible fraud with voters and foreigners allegedly being moved across the country. Several activists have shown video proof of such movements but police have dismissed those fears.

PR is hoping to break Barisan Nasional’s (BN) 57 years of unbroken rule since the coalition’s predecessor Alliance won the 1955 elections, two years before independence.

Some 12.9 million out of the 13.3 million voters will cast their ballots today for 222 federal and 505 state seats. The rest were advance and postal voters.

The latest polls have shown that both coalitions are in a dead heat to win the general election.
