GE13: Bus and train terminals packed with voters eager to cast their ballots

Voters are jamming up bus terminals and train stations around the country in their eagerness to make it back home to cast their ballots in the general election.

A check at terminals like the Duta Bus Terminal, Putra Bus Terminal, KL Sentral and the Terminal Bersepadu Selatan showed the places to be buzzing, with most outbound buses and trains nearly full.

Among those making the long journey back by bus were university student Angel Yee, 22, and her 25-year-old sister, Laura.

“We are very excited to vote since it is the first time for both of us. Although the bus tickets are not cheap, it is a price worth paying,” said Angel, who has been studying here for three years.

Laura, who is working in Singapore, said she had taken leave to join her sister to vote.

“We have no doubts about the voting process as there is detailed information online for us to read beforehand,” she said.

Manufacturing trainer Nurezzaty Abdul Majid, 25, who is also voting for the first time, said she was travelling back to Pendang, Kedah.

“My uncle, who is in the village committee, has been involved in elections before,” she said, adding that her vote would go to the candidate who could bring about a positive change to her constituency and improve the lives of people there.

Meanwhile, age is proving to be no barrier to S. Govindhamal. The 65-year-old is travelling alone all the way from Kuala Lumpur to Butterworth to vote.

“I live here with my younger son and his family. But while they are registered to vote here, I am still registered in Alma, Butterworth,” she said.
