TMJ resigns as JFA president

Johor Football Association president Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim resigned with immediate effect.

In a statement to the New Straits Times, the prince cited state responsibility as the main factor for his resignation.

Tunku Ismail said he sought the advice of his father - Sultan of Johor Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar before making the decision.

"With responsibilities as Johor's Crown prince, and also running the Johor Football Association which is always tied down by FAM's rules and regulations, it is very difficult for me to manage the team, for the betterment of football," he said.

Tunku Ismail will however still hold the position as JFA's patron.

This, he said, will enable him to have a free hand in managing JFA's administration, finances and welfare.

Johor State secretary Datuk Obet Tawil will take over the responsibility of JFA president with immediate effect.

Tunku Ismail took over the JFA helm less than a year ago. Starting from the team's name change, he transformed Johor football by bringing in the nation's best players, including international big names.

Besides the team, Johor's home ground - the Larkin Stadium, was refurbished, with new floodlights costing millions of Ringgit and provides buck seats, elevating its status to the standard of its European counterparts.
