Teeth of a human body matches 5 years old girl Dirang

The unique features found on the teeth of a human body found in an abandoned house at oil palm estate matched that of five-year-old Nurul Nadirah Abdullah, also known as Dirang, the High Court heard yesterday.

The body was found in the house at Jalan Suria 47, Bandar Seri Alam near here.

Hospital Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (HUKM) Dental Forensic Expert Dr Noor Azma Sohari said the conclusion was made based on visual and x-ray examinations to determine the identity and age of the victim.

She said police also provided a smiling picture of Dirang to enable her team to conduct a matrix analysis to verify if the teeth of the victim matched that of Dirang.

"Besides visual examination, I also analysed the victim's permanent teeth besides a detailed measurement of the length and distance between each tooth. The length of the victim's jaw was also measured to ensure a more accurate result,” she said.

"The conclusion of the examination was the victim was four years and eight months old, which was consistent with the age of Dirang," she said.

Dr Noor Azma was testifying at the trial of labourer Muidin Maidin, 26, charged with murdering Dirang at an oil palmestate at Jalan Suria 47 in Bandar Seri Alam between 11.30am on March 1 and 12am on March 2 last year.

Deputy public prosecutors Umar Saifuddin Jaafar, DPP Jasmee Hameeza Jaafar and DPP Chuah Shyne Chien are prosecuting before Judge Datuk Abdul Halim Aman while the accused is represented by Mohd Daud Ismail and Mohamad Abd Kadir.

Dr Noor Azma said the analysis showed that the probability of the victim being the same person as the one found dead was very high.

"In fact, the front teeth of the charred victim showed the same patterns as those found on the photo of the missing victim," she said.

Three other witnesses gave evidence yesterday - forensic entomologist Raja Muhammad Zuha Raja Kamal Bashah, Johor Police Forensic officer Inspector Tha Na Sak and Johor police investigating officer Assistant Superintendent Muhammad Yaid Muhammad Yeu.

Hearing continues today.
