Jobless man shot dead in hail of bullets

Police combing the crime scene in the car park at Block 3 of Taman Seri Serdang flats in Serdang following the shooting yesterday.

An unemployed man was killed, when gunmen fired 15 shots at him in the car park at Block 3 of Taman Seri Serdang flats, here, on Tuesday night.

The victim, identified as Bernard Ooi Poh Beng, was on the way to his unit after having drinks with friends at a nearby restaurant when the shooting took place.

Serdang police chief Assistant Commissioner Abdul Razak Elias said the gunmen fired 15 shots, but only nine hit Ooi on the chest, left arm, right armpit and abdomen.

"The gunmen came in a silver Proton Waja. We believe that two gunmen were involved although there were others in the car.

"The victim, who used to work as a contractor, was not married and lived here alone.

Checks also revealed that he would have drinks with his friends almost every night."

Police believe revenge was the motive behind the attack due to the number of shots fired and the way the incident took place.

Police are now conducting background checks on the victim.

"We will be recording statements from the victim's siblings," he said at the scene. By Nadirah H. Rodzi
