GE13: Mustafa: I’m not the man in videoclip

Privacy violated: A man resembling Mustafa is seen in bed with a woman in what appears to be a hotel room in the videoclip.

PAS secretary-general Datuk Mustafa Ali has denied being the man in the sex videoclip said to resemble a top party leader together in bed with a woman.

“This is a pure slander campaign by Umno. We do not suspect anyone else but the work of Umno,” Asmuni Awi, who heads the Awi & Co law firm, was quoted as saying by news portal Malaysiakini.

In a brief press statement issued yesterday, Mustafa said he would not answer any questions on the issue. “I am leaving it to my lawyers to handle it,” he added.

Political blog Kedahan69ers.com first uploaded a four-second preview of the videoclip at about 8.30pm on Thursday.

It depicted a man resembling the PAS leader putting on his underpants while seated on the edge of a bed in what appeared to be a hotel room. The man was clad only in a white singlet.

Another political blog Medan Info Kita uploaded a longer version of the video of the two having sex.

PAS leaders have stood united in support of Mustafa, while PKR, whose members were accused by pro-Umno blogger Papa Gomo of distributing VCDs of the videoclip, has denied taking any part in its release.

PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang said the video was fake and the party would not seek an explanation from Mustafa.

“I believe the man in the video is not a PAS leader. We do not regard this as a big matter, as people know the party,” he said at his residence in Rusila, Marang, yesterday.

“All this is fitnah (slander). Let the people responsible for faking the video continue airing it. The longer they do, the more they will be in sin and the more pahala (divine reward) Mustafa Ali gets.”

PAS vice-president Salahuddin Ayub said it was highly suspicious for the video to surface with the 13th general election close by.

Another vice-president Datuk Husam Musa said the amount of attention paid to such controversial videos and stories in recent years had taken the country's attention away from more pressing issues for Malaysians.

Terengganu PAS commissioner Abdul Wahid Endut said he was surprised that the political leader was the one under attack as he did not intend to contest in the general election.

PKR vice-president N Surendran has rubbished the claims that his party was involved in releasing the videoclip.

He was commenting on Papa Gomo's claims that PKR wanted to quell dissent by PAS, who had objected to Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim becoming prime minister should Pakatan take over the Federal Government.

In George Town, Deputy Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar said it was an offence to possess or distribute pornographic material.

“We have received reports and investigations have been launched,” he said.

Police have seized 16 VCDs of the videoclip and nude photographs of the man, said assistant head of the IGP's secretariat (public relations) Asst Comm Ramli Mohamed Yoosuf.

Several men were also seen distributing the VCDs and photographs in Jalan Sekolah and Taman Hidayah in Besut, Terengganu.
