GE13: Guan Eng is tired of the ‘political games’ played by Teng

Lim and Teng

Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng has called off the debate with state Barisan Nasional chief Teng Chang Yeow.

Lim said he had had enough of the “political game” played by Teng and would not entertain his conditions.

“I was tricked by him after accepting his ridiculous condition not to contest a parliamentary seat and only a state seat,” Lim said at a press conference here yesterday.

He said he would now defend the Air Putih state seat, which he won in the 2008 general election, and also stand in a parliamentary seat.

n response, Teng described Lim's remarks that he had been tricked as “the biggest joke of the general election”.

“I feel sorry for him, more so for DAP,” Teng told reporters at the state Barisan Nasional headquarters in Jalan Datuk Keramat, about two hours after Lim's conference.

He said Lim's refusal to accept his condition to contest in a mixed-race seat proved that he was not a leader for all races, contrary to his (Lim) claims.

“As a leader of a multiracial party, I don't see why he does not dare to accept my condition to contest in a mixed-race composition seat,” said Teng.

On Monday, Teng maintained his conditions for the face-off with Lim, saying he (Teng) would decide on the seat to be contested.

He had insisted that they contest in a seat with a multiracial composition while Lim wanted to contest in Chinese-majority Padang Kota, which Teng had held for three terms before being unseated by Penang DAP chairman Chow Kon Yeow in the 2008 polls.

Padang Kota has about 78% Chinese voters, Indians and others (16%) and Malays (almost 6%).

Teng also said yesterday that the list of Barisan candidates for Penang was ready.
