GE13: Deputy IGP warns employers not to influence employees’ votes

Deputy Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar has advised everyone, especially employers, not to threaten or force their workers to vote for a particular party during polling day on May 5.

He said the reminder was made as police had received information that several employers in Johor had threatened to retrench workers who vote for certain political parties.

"According to information received in Johor, there are employers threatening their workers that they would be sacked if they vote for a certain political party," he told reporters at the ceremony to award the National Sovereignty Medal to 25 police personnel involved in the Lahad Datu intrusion by Sulu gunmen in February.

The medals were handed out by Rural and Regional Development Minister and Semporna incumbent MP Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal on Sunday.
