JOHOR BARU: FOUR stolen vehicles were recovered during a series of raids conducted by police at Taman Molek and Taman Johor Jaya in Seri Alam, here, recently.

Johor deputy police chief Datuk Ismail Yatim said detectives under a special task force from the Seri Alam district headquarters stormed the premises following months of surveillance and undercover operations.

"The detectives detained six suspects, aged between 22 and 43, believed to be members of a syndicate specialising in stealing cars, cannibalising them or selling them to unsuspecting buyers at a bargain," Ismail said in a press conference that was held at the Johor police contingent headquarters along Jalan Tebrau here recently.

Three of the suspects, who have been remanded to facilitate investigations, had previous criminal records including gang and armed robberies, drugs-related offences, rape, and possession of stolen goods.

Ismail said one of the three had also jumped a RM18,000 bail and was on the Johor police wanted list for a drug-related offence.

During the raids, police also seized screwdrivers, wire cutters, Allen keys, master keys and various drugs from the suspects.

They also had several modified tools that were believed used to gain entry into the vehicles before hot-wiring them.

With the arrest of the suspects, police believed they have solved seven vehicle theft cases reported in Seri Alam and also 11 car theft cases reported in Johor Baru (south).
