THE Ministry of Domestic Trade, Cooperative and Consumerism seized 500,000 pirated VCDs and DVDs worth RM5 mln during a raid on a double-storey shophouse in Jalan PJU 1A/3J Ara Damansara, here, today.

The Ministry's enforcement division special task force head Fahmi Kasim said the five-hour operation started at 1.40pm.

"However, no arrests were made because the workers ran away as soon they realised our presence on the close circuit television installed outside the premises," he told reporters here.

He said the raid was conducted by a team of 11 enforcement officers from Putrajaya, headed by Mat Jidin Hassan after a tip off.

"The premises, which were used as a store to keep the DVDs and VCDs, were locked during the raid and my men had to break down the door. We believe the premises have been used for the past three months and the VCDs and DVDs sold at RM8 to RM10 each," he said.

Fahmi said among other items seized were 19 units of burners and several printing equipment.
