Four charged with kidnapping

The accused being escorted out of the Kuala Lumpur magistrate’s court after being charged with kidnapping yesterday.

A suspended police officer, two security guards and a trader were yesterday charged with kidnapping a millionaire's son for a ransom of RM1.5 million.

Inspector R. Raja Kumar, 44, from the Federal police headquarters in Bukit Aman, security guards M. Ramu, 35, and K. Shashi, 25, and trader G. Thiagarajah, 37, claimed trial to the charge which could send them to the gallows if convicted.




At the magistrate's court yesterday, the four were accused of abducting Tan Boon Hin, 34, at the Seri Kembangan industrial area in Serdang on March 22.

Tan was driving by himself towards a construction site in Seri Kembangan when he was forced to a stop by four men in a car.

Within hours, Tan's father, who owns an engineering firm, received a call from the kidnappers who demanded a ransom of RM1.5 million for his release. Tan, a father of three, was the project manager in his father's company.

Raja Kumar and Thiagarajah were nabbed on March 31 after an undisclosed amount in ransom was dropped off, while Ramu and Shashi were picked up the following day.

The victim was rescued after the four kidnappers were arrested.

Magistrate Ahmad Solihin Abd Wahid denied the four bail and fixed May 16 for mention.
