Teng urges BN reps to table motion against him

Selangor State Assembly Speaker Teng Chang Khim today urged Barisan Nasional (BN) assemblymen to table a motion against him after they had accused him of being bias.

Seven BN assemblymen had today staged a walkout during the assembly sitting after accusing Teng (picture) of favouritism following an SMS the latter had sent to Selangor state executive councillors.

Teng’s SMS, obtained by The Malaysian Insider, states: “This is possibly the last winding-up session for exco, opportunity should be fully used to talk about our success in the past 4 years like what (Kota Anggerik state assemblyman) Yaacob (Sapari) is doing.”

However, Teng said he “doesn’t see any problem in giving advice to excos” and was merely “urging them to do their best”.

“If they (the BN assemblymen) are unhappy, they can move a motion against me,” he told a press conference later.

“This is not a challenge but a chance. If they dare say I am wrong, then table a motion against me,” he said.

Teng said he was extremely disappointed in the assemblymen, whom he described as “more willing to walk out and have a press conference than to discuss state policies which are important for the people”.

He also accused sacked Selangor exco Datuk Hasan Ali of forwarding the SMS to the BN representatives.

“Of course it was Hasan Ali who had shared the SMS with (them),” Teng said, calling Hasan “ungentlemanly”.

“This also shows (Hasan’s) close connection with Umno,” he added, acknowledging that he had made a mistake by not removing the former exco’s name from his broadcast list.

Teng reiterated the BN assemblymen should table a motion against him for debate and a vote if they were unhappy with what transpired.

“If they table a motion, I will not sit in the Speaker’s seat,” he said.

“I will go down and sit with the rest.”
