PAS election results out by 10am tomorrow

PAS election committee chairman Datuk Abdul Halim Abdul Rahman said today the party’s official election results are expected to be announced by 10am tomorrow.

Party president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang returned unopposed for the fifth consecutive term while incumbent Nasharudin Mat Isa will be locked in a three-cornered fight against Datuk Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man and Mohamad Sabu.



While the tussle for the three vice president seats will be between Datuk Husam Musa, Datuk Nik Mohd Amar Abdullah, Idris Ahmad, Datuk Seri Mohammad Nizar Jamaluddin with incumbents Datuk Mahfuz Omar and Salahuddin Ayub.

A total of 53 candidates have been confirmed to contest for the remaining 18 position of the central working committee member.

“We will be transparent during the party election. Observers and representatives of candidates for the vice president and deputy president will also be present during the counting and tallying of votes,” Abdul Halim told the delegates here.

Abdul Halim added that under clause 18 (2) of the party’s constitution, delegates qualified to vote include permanent chairman and deputy permanent chairman (2), members of the shura council, members of the central committee and sate commissioners (52), representatives from the Ulama council, PAS Youth and PAS Muslimat (each 20) and the Yang Dipetua Dewan kawasan appointed during the general assembly (963).

Voting for the posts of deputy president, vice presidents and the central working committee for the 2011-2013 term began at 4 pm and last for three hours before polling closed.
